M83

I am officially taken by M83.

It all began with Midnight City which I thought would make a great outro track if my life was a movie and also would be perfect for a road trip as my lover and I drive into the sunset. The sax though??? *shivers*

Next stop fell in love with Intro ft Zola Jesus, which I am definitely having on my Wedding song playlist. It will be an outro as my Beloved and I say goodbye to the party. It will be a live band playing it :)

Amazing, yes.

Ceremonials

One of the better albums I've listened to this year. My best songs are;
Shake It Out
No Light, No Light
Never Let Me Go
If Only For The Night
Spectrum
Remain Nameless
Heartlines

Plus I just realized that 'You've got the love' is a Gospel track, I couldn't love it more.

I have an Infection

I have played this song no less than 500 times in a week. Even after I stop playing it, 'Gold Canary' 'Gold Canary' still keeps ringing in my brain, I do not know why.

Lookey what I found!

Yeah!! luckily I work in one of the best areas in LDN. Walking around and exploring the area, I discovered a lot of vintage clothing stores, music stores, book stores with lots and lots and lots of items at very cheap prices. This particular store I went to has lots of comics and manga, I was looking for a health store actually when I wandered into this one. Didn't buy anything but I was amazed. I surely will be going back there as I build up my book/manga/comic collection :D

ooh ooh, Happy July!!

A Night Out with Tété

So I won a ticket to go see this musician Tete at Monto Water Rats. Normally I'm very apprehensive about meeting girls for the first time. I don't know what to say to girls. I tell you I can count the number of female friends I have on one finger..iKid..ok on one hand. Anyways, I said, I'll just go and try to have a good time.

First of all, my line had severe delays!!!! oh no! A 35mins journey was going to turn to 1hr 30mins..plus we were roasting underground. It wasn't funny at all. Thankfully I made it soon enough!

We listened to one of the opening acts, then went to get some food because I was starving..we got on pretty well, even if I say so myself..hehe. I realized that at Nandos the possibility of being sat next to a black person who is Nigerian is very high! After some chat and food, we headed back to Monto Water Rats.

About 10pm, the main reason for the night came up to perform with people chanting Tete! Tete!. I didn't know it was going to be this late, because the show started at 7pm. Anyways, we listened to a number of songs and wow wow wow, his skill on the guitar is amazing! the songs..in french, but just so soothing and great on the ears. I have to admit, I've been having a growing affection for gap-toothed people. The French accent..mixed with english is so *censored* LOL!

It was a good night out..sadly had to leave early if I wanted to get home before 12am. I said my goodbyes, and got back on the line which thankfully was running smoothly!

If you want to learn more about Tété and listen to his music check out --> Tété and Official Website http://www.tete.tv/

Real Nigerian Music

My heart has always yearned for genuine things, and I have this uncanny ability for spotting them. I'm drawn to truth in heart and in sounds. Any kind of music I take seriously, I am sure of truth in it. In Nigeria, we only have a few of such souls, and I normally won't bother to listen to the lot of Nigerian musicians out there today, but a number of them stand out.

Asa, I remember the first time I had a glimpse of her, with her glasses and short locs on an NTA programme, I instantly liked her. I knew it was the locs at first, but I think her whole persona combined with the guitar holding and what she sang drew me to her.

Her first album, Loved Loved Loved it. It was still taking me lots of time to get into her second album but something changed things for me. A friend of mine told me casually, 'Ah Asa is going to be singing at the Barbican' oh ok...'I have a spare ticket if you want to come' he finished. Yay, I thought 'Let's go there' hehe.

It was a great night, not only did my respect for Asa move up a number of notches, my appreciation of her second album also grew. She is the Truth, I hope she never loses it. An icing on the cake of the night was waiting to listen to Tiken Jah Fakoly

I was actually in this Video, dancing my ass off.lol. enjoy!

I Want to Know What Love Is pt. 1

Heavy night, it was a heavy night
Feels like we've just, come back from the dead
Heavy night, it was a heavy night
I cannot remember what I said to anyone
If we get up now, we can catch the afternoon
Watch the under15's playing football in the park
Let’s sit in St Leonard's on this alcoholic day
We're doing the best, with what we've got
I love you in the morning
When you're still hung over
I love you in the morning
When you're still strung out
I work hard all week and so do you
We deserve to let off some steam
Less orthodox creeping,
We need to rage through all of this life
There might be ones who are smarter than you
That have the right answers that wear better shoes
Forget about those melting ice caps
We're doing the best, with what we've got
I love you in the morning
When you're still hung over
I love you in the morning
When you're still strung out
When I'm with you, I am calm
A pearl in your oyster
Head on my chest a silent smile
A private kind of happiness
You see giant proclamations
Are all very well
But our love is louder than words

Sunday - Bloc Party

As usual as I leave the station, I check to see if the bus marked 140 is close by, then I start to walk west anyway. The invisible harshly caresses my face and I think 'Not this time' and then turn to check again. My eyesight wouldn't allow me see so far, so I move east a bit and there was bus 140 getting bigger.  5mins late would have found me once again, walking along the field, my ears safely tucked under the warmer but sensitive enough to transmit music from the earphones connected to my 'lackberry' across my whole being. Usually, I'd be dancing along as I struggled to walk, with onlookers shaking their collective head in disbelief.  Off the bus, I walk east then north along the asphalt path, alone. Sunday goes through my whole and words cannot express how much I love the song.

The Case for Christian Music

I really do not like the way 'Christian' music is shelved as a genre of music especially when being Christian isn't just a part of a life but one's whole life. I guess this is the reason why many musicians try to break out of that box. They try to make it clear that they are Christians who play music. I would expect that any piece of music that a Christian plays would be one that'd fill me with love, hope, joy, peace, good things regardless of what religion/non-religion I subscribe to.

Music itself is just unexplainable, its undeniable, it reaches your soul. But just like every other tool that we have, it can have a positive or negative effect. Not everyone feels the way I feel about music, but it's hard to deny its effects. Music made by Christians most times reflect what is written in the bible and is doubly encouraging. There are times I just want to close my eyes..music is a great companion. Lots of times I remember bible verses because of the way an artiste carved them into lyrics. Music is great.

I'm really glad that many Christians just do what they are called to do, play music. It doesn't really matter if 'Christian music is shelved into one corner, I'm glad that's not all there is to it.

Anberlin

I love these guys, their lyrics are so on point. I'm actually angry at myself for ignoring most of their records because I'd been hooked on only a couple of their songs. I'm glad I finally did, what a blessing!  I've had them on heavy rotation for the past two days. I also love their new album and I hope to hear them live one day.

A Tale of Choice

I went to a classical music concert at one of the museums. When I told my aunt, she asked what I would do when I get older, thinking I meant a pop concert at first, funny. The pieces included Tchaikovsky, Kreisler and Prokofiev, none of my favorites, but the Violin was heavy in the pieces, so that was good enough for me.

Once upon a time, I started learning how to play the Violin, but I got bogged down by school work (Engineering wasn't a piece of cake for me) Now that I look back with the courage to admit it, laziness and lack of focus I'd say, really made me stop. The lessons were not convienent but anything good or worthwhile is never about convenience.

I watched her on the violin and my heart was filled with pain and lessons. She played with such skill, my heart welled up with tears. I could feel the soul of the pieces.

We tend to explain or excuse away the treasures in us.  It's not easy, of course it's never meant to be 'easy'. Still, you can, we can. Anything you can do now, do it and do it well. It doesn't matter how small the steps are. The stories of the composers themselves are lessons to everyone. Start, you have to start somewhere

I enjoyed the whole piece and found my way out of the museum, on to the next thing, still filled with a bit of joy, a bit of melancholy, a bit of I CAN, no regrets, just the realisation of possibilities. What do I choose? I choose to live.

Ayo - Lonely

A new Twitter friend directed me to this...

Protest to Praise

I love Downhere's Downhere album, it was a companion during Undergrad and I've 're-discovered' them, I recommend this definitely! My best song has got to be Protest to Praise, I don't know why but it speaks volumes to me. I couldn't have chosen this myself, all the songs are #gbam with lyrics on point.

Protest to Praise - Downhere

I knew the times would come and now the times have landed
With stinging abrasion As ready as I seem to be
It's never like I planned it, yeah

I'm wrestling my thoughts I'm overcome
Would you give me up I'm asking Lord
There's no where I sense Your presence here
So I will cry out, until I go

From Protest to praise
You're always amazing me
You're changing me slow, but surely
And You're gonna see me to the end

How long will I be forgotten by You forever
You're not making sense here
Seems like eternity has made a home between us, yeah

You're changing me slow
I just can't help but see it that way
Cuz You're gonna see me to the end

Music is much better.

Everyone knows there is a magic about music. My uncle today said anyone who doesn't respond to music definitely has mental problems, he was like, there can never be anything like MJ's Thriller, it was pure awesomeness. He was genius. Music does so much to me, I cannot describe. I can describe my perfect day though :).
I remember just months ago in my flat all alone in Geordieland. The room had white walls, I love white walls, most other colours do my head in. I had just acquired my black logitech sound system, essential. My playlist was Carl Orff's O Fortuna (on repeat) I'm lying on the couch after school, after a meal. It was pure bliss as I watched the sun go down with the room darkening...
Anyways, I have been trying for ages, to get the name of particular pieces of music stuck in my head, and today, they all came together. I'd been watching Misfits, which is an awesome piece of TV and a particular scene comes on with one of the pieces, fantastic! I go on to search for it, I also stumble upon this Site  and this which list a number of pieces used in popular media now I'm in paradise XD
These are the pieces that give me pure joy this wonderful white sunday ^_^ Enjoy.

A Nice Night

So We went to my Aunty's sons school concert he was going to be performing in the gospel choir. At first I was just like hmm haven't been out of the house in days..as we say 'Make I just stretch leg small abi' But what I saw there threw me back.

These where some of the music played.

The senior orchestra performed March from Aida by Giuseppe Verdi and Clog dance by Ferdinand Harold
The big band jazz played Black Magic Woman by Carlos Santana
The Gospel choir did a number of Kirk Franklin songs, Nice!
The concert band played Putting on the Ritz by Irving Berlin, really great!
The wind band played Handel and the Big Band jazz did a really nice Way cool dude by Michael Sweeney

To wrap it all up, The Concert band played Pirates of the Caribbean..amazing finale!

I was BBMing my friend about the concert and we talked a bit about our time in secondary school. Because most of the performers on stage were just in grades 7 and 8. They played the violin, flutes, cello, guitar, piano, horns e.t.c very well! I remembered back in secondary school while we did 'Music' and learnt how to read a music sheet we never really saw it in action, the 'music club' only consisted of singing. While the Human voice is still the best instrument and it amazes me to no end. Playing one of these other instruments couldn't''t have hurt. In my first year of University I became friends with a girl who I learnt had her violin in school, so I asked her to teach..I started but sadly got bogged down with school work. I still ant to learn. Hopefully SOON!

Personally If I do have children, I will encourage them to fall in love with these things. Music is such a potent tool in this world nothing is like it, amazing! I thoroughly enjoyed myself.

From Estonia With Love...

I do not like to take part in activities, which leave no room for learning or ........free food. Most things I do, I try to learn something from, even when I am sat there in my housecoat on the couch just listening to Carl Orff wafting from my Logitech surround system.
Yesterday, I had just opened my eyes to the bright lights of  the new day at about 12:30am when my friend handed me her phone to read the text inviting us to a Concert at an Apostolic church all the way in Spital Tongues, quite a distance from where we stayed. I told her, no problem! There's always free food at these churches after the service, It's worth it, Lets go there!

Fast Forward to about 5pm, we both scrambled for the bathroom, because we had to make the 6:56pm bus, If not, we would be real late for the service, and here there is no African Time. Thanks to the flats my friend wore, she ran down to the bus to stall the driver, while I managed rapid hops in my favourite brown ankle boots to the bus. Then I saw the bus move, oh no! Luckily it was the nice man driving, not the hard-nosed lady who frankly wouldn't give a 'damn' Even if I had blood gushing from my head, 6:56 was 6:56!
While in the bus we encountered an 'Oyinbo' speaking proper Niger-Delta pidgin, I told my friend that the colour of the baby in buggy just in front of the woman would be the key to our questions but my friend proceeded to confront the woman, who told the person she was on the phone with 'I no know why this girl come shine her eyes o, she dey see oyinbo speak pidgin, Lawl lawl lawl' and yeap! the baby was 'brown' We were highly amused, got off the bus at our stop and walked down to the church amidst a throng of people walking animatedly towards St James Park for the big game! hopefully the Army would win, draw or not lose too badly I thought Afterall, one of the key player's father was the pastor of the church we were going to!

The service had already started! and we were only a few seconds late. Well we managed to find a seat before the joint 'Amen', Soon after, the choir was introduced and proceeded to sing various songs, they opened with a John 3:16 number which they sang both in Estonian and English, I absolutely loved it! In between songs some members gave testimonies which introduced the next song. A 15yr old, the youngest of the choir talked about having to read her bible in secret, because her parents were staunch Atheist, but an accident she was involved in where she lost her best friend, proved a turning point in her parents life, she spoke about the calm, God gave her after her many questions and everything. Another guy spoke about how on his 15th birthday, They waited for his dad to come home for the party, but he never came..because he had been killed in an Accident, caused by a 17yr old without even a drivers license. Somehow, God gave him strength and peace. It was all so touching and a big blessing to me. Sometimes we get so caught up in the minute things, but its necessary to step back and remind ourselves that God has a plan.

After the song ministration, the founder of the choir, a man who could only speak Estonian and father to about three children in the choir gave a summary of how life had been in Estonia and the way it is now. People had lived in fear because of the control the Soviet had over the country then. The complete oppression that was over all the peoples. He talked about how one day when the Russians sent tanks to destroy people who were singing and praising God and some parts of the country. The leaders who were Atheist had to get on the radio to tell everyone in the country to start praying, somehow, the tanks turned and went back to Russia! And then  Independence from the Soviet Union was pushed when 2 million people linked hands ttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baltic_Way they sang songs and prayed for the release of their countries. So much more was said, but the pastor who preached the word summarized it all beautifully.
One could be 'free' from oppression of physical things, Those countries free from Soviet rule, The UK, free from the seeming occupation of the Germans, Nigerians free from colonial rule, free from all sorts of forces. All these are wonderful, but as the Estonian Man said, When the country was free from Soviet rule, people began to worship another god, riches and wealth which still signifies Slavery. True freedom could only come in Jesus Christ 'Who the Son sets free is free indeed!'

It was such a wonderful time! There was so much love in the room, I was so glad we went. Honestly the Jollof Rice (watered down because of the Oyinbos) had nothing to do with it...err, maybe slightly...there were drinks, puff-puff and fruits. It was a nice closure to everything. When I learnt through my Twitter page that the Army had been beaten Four to Nil, I felt apprehensive, didn't want to go home in the midst of a billion angry fans. Thankfully, the heavens saw it fit to cry quite heavily for the Army which made the pastor drop my friend and I at our home!

Sweet.

Your Love...

I love Seal and the whole album

The Lyrics are amazing, really goes straight to me heart.

SEAL - Loneliest star

Picture the sky that is how high I reach
But your love, is a chance I'd like to take
With each breath in me I wait
If it brings you back to me

Because I'm free and I'm young
I'm the loneliest star from the sun
But I feel that I'm close to the one
Who will stop me from coming undone

Cause I'm free
I have been close
I have been almost near (who do you really want to make it, who do you want to kill)
But city light
But nothing quite like here (who do you really want to be right here)

And your love, (your love) is a light that binds us both, (your love)
With each breath in me I hope
We won't throw it all away

Don't you know that I'm free and I'm young
I'm the loneliest star from the sun
And I feel that I'm close to the one
Who will stop me from coming undone

(With your love)
I know that I could be the best with,
(With your love)
I know that I can take a risk with
(With your love)
I could fly with your love
(With your love, with your love)
If anyone would try and mess with
(With your love)
you and I would be possessed with
(With your love)
I would die for you love
(With your love)

Don't you know that I'm free and I'm young
I'm the loneliest star from the sun
But I feel that I'm close to the one
Who will stop me from coming undone

Cause I'm free, don't you know I'm free
Cause I'm free, don't you know I'm free.

So far alive none have been right for me
