With Friends like This...

Me & Ham (2008)

You have hammered.

Sometimes it takes a bit of retrospection (casting of the eyes backward contemplatively ) to truly appreciate what you've had or the journey you have been on. I don't have many words to describe how grateful and thankful I am for this girl. I never knew that, at the moment we took the picture above in school that we would still be friends now, 5years after but time doth fly.

Ham wrote an amazing post about our journey HERE one I really can't compose. Read and appreciate, don't just see it as a story of both of us, but see it as an example of what loyalty and friendship means.

Love always to Ham.

We are friends, really?

So, I read recently of a blogger who died from cancer. One of his 'friends' had exclaimed that they didn't even know about it and that really made me wonder, and took my mind back to this post I made a while ago. How well do we know our friends?, or should we even call them friends. Are there other words, one can use to really put this in perspective, this relationship, because I don't know.
It disturbs me, how much social media has also played a part in this, while connecting people leaves much to be desired underneath. I'm not up for meeting everyone I talk to online, but even those I know, who I wouldn't call friends, I have a bit of care for, talk much more of those who I hold close to my 'bosom' . One could also argue that a person only shares what they are willing to share. From what I've learnt so far, people would share anything if they would feel comforted from just talking to that person, sadly many we call friends don't.
I don't have many people I call friends, but I try to let them know that communication is what binds us. I have no problem if we drift apart, we would no longer be friends, and then I don't expect a lot of sharing in that direction. Still, every single, I try to become someone people would find comfort in. Some of us are indeed stronger than others.

The Silly

So someone, on hearing my age, exclaimed 'You are old oo' in terms of marriage. I could only laugh at the point. This is what i've done, brought silly into my life.

But the thing is, If you don't know silly people, you will know people who know silly people, and one day or the other, their silly shows up in your face...Sad thing about this world.

On the other hand, having friends who care, and can cook wellu wellu ...mehn my tummy was filled with food and laughter, yesterday was a good day.

The funny thing is in silliness, the silly asked me to cancel this dinner, aah..too silly! ^_^

The past few Days...

Its been a looooooong minute!, its always amazing how, a few days make so much difference in one's life. Through out the weekend i was focused on getting one of my essays out, which i turned in on Monday. So the weekend was a bit of a blur, except when i went with my Zimbabwean friend, Brenda to a Mary Kay event where we got free gifts, and then decided with the change on us to get some Chinese food. We ended up walking back home, and eating the food on the way, it was tres funny and fun!

Along the way we met one of our mutual friends, a guy who had recently just gotten back from the hospital where he was admitted because he had been beaten by random people one fateful night, it gave me the chills. Obviously hate-inspired, oour damm world!
 ****Breathe****

Monday was one of my friends birthday, and guess what! she planned to go to Whitley Bay! Whitley Bay i had gone to for the first time the last week on a project. I was way too surprised! anyways, she wanted us to go ice-skating. After a long day at school, and stopping for seconds to see a spectacle in the city center, i went home. Only to get my house mate saying someone she had met at church, a Nigerian guy had invited us to a dinner, where He would be cooking!! Mehh, hard decisions, man! Friend Vs New Guy, Free Food Vs Cake, Ice-Skating Vs Warm getogether.... Well of course you have to weigh your priorities. Amd i reckon, one celebrates a birthday only once in a year..so..lol
It was great fun!! yeah i'd never been on the ice before, butt for a beginner, i really did well, if i say so myself :D, pictures yay!

Tuesday, was just a tension filled day, we had to get our presentation and pdf together, i left school the latest i've ever done. I was just so spazzed out.

Wednesday!! everyone was geared up and ready to go, not before one of our ash struck coursemate, Alisha, gave out little presents, it was so cute! and then she gave me a special one, because i had helped her submit her assignments while she was still stuck...i would never have expected the gesture in a million years, plus she had given me a token for what i had spent even if i brushed it off.

Presentations went well, albeit some slight blimps here and there, but overall everyone was upbeat and it just kind of flowed. After we went for Post- Celebration Celebrations!! lol (inside joke.hehe), had a pint and headed home, Great day overall.

Here i am, had to blog, but i really should go sleep now though, no break for long between projects so i have to be in at 9:30 to get on, great times ahead! ;D

March, Soldier On...

I'm so grateful for everything i am, i have. I wonder why it takes certain events to put things in perspective for us. You realise there are really more important things to live for.

Friday was chill, tried to shake the gloomy feeling i had, just relaxing and thinking of nothing but breathing in and out. Friday was my sisters birthday, and i wished her all the best life could offer, couldnt help but laugh at the last converstaion we had, She is a crazy one. I read 'Catcher in the Rye' and listened to ballads, from Leona Lewis to Celine Dion. Was supposed to go out to the 'Empress' just didnt feel like seeing humans, really.

Saturday was domesticated and couldn't hang out cause my friend was nursing a massive hangover..

Sunday, well, church, went grocery shopping, was in the mood for some cooking, set the chicken to boil with all the spices..hmm it smelled good, then it smelledwrong. Dashed into the kitchen to see the chicken burning, my morale burnt along with it and i couldnt think of cooking any thing again. Luckily (good to have friends who like to cook) i was invited to a dinner at sandyford, lol. it was all good, not a bad time out at all.

Dedicated to the Friend, and all those we've lost : Soldier On ~The temper trap

Out of mind

Back here again, theres lots i want to say but as usual my mind is struggling to put it all out in words. My week started great, upbeat and positive, but as it got nearer the weekend, it all went bust!
I couldn't travel to Gloucester again no money :(. All the promises failed, (See why my trust in people is at an all time low). I couldn't get a party dress for the Valentine dinner on Friday, I then decided to cheer myself up with. I didn't go and sulked the Friday away. Saturday, had to end up at the library doing project work, i couldn't get my kinky braids..i decided to move it all to next week.
Procastination is quite deadly and as much as i try to stay in the now, unknowingly i file some things into this box and it costs me. My mind is constantly working out ow o organise myself and do things with minimum stress while try to make sure i remember all those that matter in my life, hard feat...

As to my PDP, i got my assessment feedback on wednesday and i probably had the lowest score in the class even though i got a Merit, but its a Pass/Fail so all well and good. It also made me see the many flaws in out educational system back in Nigeria, i kinda wished i had come here earlier. Lots of things that matter are usually pushed aside in our system.

Anyways, Getting into the new, throwing away the old, breathing and breathing out, thankful for Family and friends around me! its all good :D

My Avatar

If i had an avatar, she would probably look like that and her name would be Cleonytri. I had been looking forward to watching James Cameron's movie and the excitement over the technology used was no small thing. We kept on waiting while carrying on with our normal day to day life and then it was announced to open in December. Many reviews popped up on the internet and i couldnt help but read, when the movie was finally premiered.

The main theme i kept picking up was how stunning The Humanoids and Pandora, the Na'vis' homeland was, with the 3d and IMAX viewing especially, another strong point was the blatant racism, imperialism and some other -isms which are not so good contained within the movie, the political, environmental themes and what not. i didnt want to be bothered, i wanted to watch the movie anyway unlike district 9 which i haven't still seen. Avatar was being compared to movies and animations like Ferngully, Dances with Wolves, Pocahontas e.t.c. I would be daft if i say i didn't notice the recurring theme. 'White' man goes to native land to basically wreck havoc by stealing resources. One lone man and sidekick(s) breaks away after a romantic encounter with a native most likely daughter of the village head , then becomes the hero of the natives by turning against initial party. This..some say is every 'White' man's dream, so he can do away with the guilt which has been inherited him. Basically i didnt buy the story, but that wasnt what i wanted to see so off to the cinema i went.

I watched Avatar in 3d with a friend at The Gate, the most annoying thing was that i had to wear the 3D glasses on my own spectacles.lol, i did have my eyes and head spinning after a while. but i was really amazed at the 3d tech, i resolved that i would still see the movie in IMAX, which was my original plan anyway, i also wanted to take the 3D glasses away, i mean c'mon! i paid for those things! lol.

Some weeks later i went to Odeon to see it in IMAX with another friend at 9:45am!! on a saturday morning, because seats where so booked! i was amazed at myself. lol. We got there and behold, a very long queue! it could only be for Avatar. We got in and went on to enjoy the movie. i dozed off lots of times, cos u know its a really long movie.lol but seeing it in IMAX makes all the difference, my eyes didnt spin as much, the screen was so clear, i thought my eyeballs had reverted back to the original shape. It was great!

Even though the story wasnt new plus overdone, and the lead character not very engagng, i enjoyed the movie. Even though i thought the Na'Vi's were a mash up of Red Indians and some South African tribe.. Even though i thought the features of the Na'Vi were grossly disturbing and i did see the racist undercurrents..Its a movie to watch and only at the Cinema..and in IMAX 3D!! :D

P:S Next stop Alice in Wonderland! Can't wait!

Mid-Week Mix

Sunday RANT

ok, so i had some friction with my dad over this Church issue, i just put it to him that i wanted to attend one near my house with my friend who was over for the weekend..ehhhh no! i was disobeying him. Anyhoo we ended up going there.

Got a lot of stares because of my natural hair and cat eye glasses.lol!
One woman actually came to meet i and my friend as we waited for the service to start outside, she said she liked my face and wanted to take a pic, but she had no camera. she left and came back asking for my autograph..Im like, sorry lady (amidst plenty laff) i am not a star/celeb. shes like, well you are one in the making, she smiled and left. My friend was like, this woman is funny o.

Usher wahala.... The service hadnt started, a friend calls me and i pickup, next thing this huge lady is allover me, telling me to end the call or go out..huh?i continued talking, then she adds a terrible excuse "The Phone is affecting the Video camera" what the!?!

I enjoyed the message though, it was something "Christians" ought to hear everyday not "this town would not be complete until you drive a car!" and the audience choruses a thunderous AMEN!.
Christianity has nothing to do with the church you attend, its about how you live your life EVERYDAY, EVERY MOMENT. Has nothing to do with -Self, haven nailed that to the cross. I am not a perfect person but i do know that Understanding leads one on the right way. With all the Religious Confusions i have experienced in my life, i should be Atheist. But haven realised the very essence of Christianity, its why i remain "Christian" or whatever label it is now.

Hair

Yup yup, go nappy! when my friend came over for the weekend, she was still surprised i was natural, infact she said So this is how your hair looks "due" Due for what? i ask. She just smiles. I try to let my hair out as often as possible, but i have currently been wearing a wig to work :( . From next week! its gonna be me and my hair!

I saw this natural woman at the church, with really long twists, my friend started to argue that its dreads, must natural hair be lowcut or dreads! Anyway, im watchng my hair, moisturizing everyday..oooh the feel of water through the hair..so great! so wonderful, so..lol

One of my guy friends has made me his hair consultant lol..see wat nachi don cause.lol

Weight Gain

I got this bread recipe from http://naijacookbook.blogspot.com/ which says would make you gain weight..plus i really like eggs, it has been really delicious, it was what even led me to that zombie dream *shudders* a friend says its cos i like food too much :P

Friendships

If there is anything i know about this, is that it isnt by force.it surely cannot be one-sided. i admit that im really laid back when it comes to sustaining friendships..but i dont have a problem with sticking with people. Friendship is the very foundation for every other type of relationship..if you want it long lasting anyway. Depending on the person, it could be really tasking too. I like making my own friends, i dont do communities.
Dude meets me at work and is acting like i forced him to be "friends" with me. I dont waste time letting people know what obtains with me ( so i get called harsh, quite often)...so i tell him straight up, if he thinks i am "work" he should take a hike. i just dont know why they never get it.

Work

Life at the Ministry of Corruption hasnt been smooth, it was really terrible at first but things are getting better. The members are going on recession next week, i may just be taking my leave too.hehehe.
It is Children's Day, i should have been home! atleast my parents see me as a child, It was "bring your children to work" day at the complex..i tried playing aunty at a point and opened my Snes emulator for some kids to play Mariokart and they had no idea, i was flummoxed! my kids will know MARIO o!! What a world these children live in these days, saddening :( lol

Of Weddings, Horosope andThings

Had to get this in, before i take my internet break. :D

Actually a friend of mine asked me this question today

when is your own wedding na?

in 4years and one month i replied, well thats what facebook says and the strange thing is, its exactly the same month my sister got married and her particular age too . .

Hearing about weddings makes me have cold feet, my friend also told me about two people we know who met on Nairaland.com and are arranging their wedding now, and another friend of mine from school (classmate)told me her wedding date had been fixed for July.

I always did dream about one kain fantastic wedding like that but the closer it gets, the more the probability drops, its one of those things you cant afford to make a mistake about, the only way out of it is death, imagine the finality of it! and the horoscope says my best match is Capricorn, where do i get those from now!

i guess if or when you feel right about it, it'll happen
my friend said,

Yeah i guess but i really dont want all that ceremony and paparazzi
id like something like this---->http://www.mymodernmet.com/profiles/blogs/a-simply-chic-wedding-14

Really, Nigerian weddings..r just, i don't want my face in peoples houses on bowls, cups, buckets theyd use to pack shit or something, calender, writing pads they'd tear up
participating in my sisters wedding really opened my eyes further, i wont do it like that at all, my family may rage. .

they will rage but in the end, it should really be what you want
my friend says

exactly, besides they have five other people to settle them
four now..actually.lol

i just want it cute, lovely, small, classy, special, unique :D

I am Virgo,

NB:i dont do horoscope, astrology thingy thingy, its just fun sometimes, but i gotta admit, many things they describe fits.

Leave me ALONE!

Oh bah, another rant.

i really do hate being introduced to people, it hardly turns out well.

Im purely monogamous

try to understand that.
