That One Friend

Friendship has always been a touchy subject with me, but I've always wanted that one friend.

So yeah, right after primary school where everything was a blur, guys were girls, girls were guys, and it was pretty much safe. everyone was in everyone's clique (technically not, but..) I began to feel the need for that 'one' friend when I got into secondary school and everyone found their 'square-root'. That one friend I could always count on, to be by my side. That one friend who, didn't want to be with anyone else as much. That one friend, I could swap angst-filled stories with.lol. That one friend, you know..

I also began to understand myself better, I surely didn't want to be in any 'clique' as was the order of the day and I was generally ok with being by myself. But it was difficult doing that as a 'boarder'

I finally thought I had found the 'one'. We were close and hung together alot. when she wasn't around, don't get me wrong, i had some other friends, who I gisted and hung with, but we werent that close and like I said, I didn't fancy a posey. Anyways as we neared the end of school, I realised she was just as shallow as the rest of them *sigh* what a farce!

University, I was like 'ok breath of fresh air, maybe I would meet this person' Hmm..though I met her but my joy was short-lived. She left the school very early and I just couldn't bother at all. I didn't want someone who was everyone's friend, I didn't want someone who had one or more appendages. I wanted a lone figure, someone as crazy as I was. weird and all that jazz. Didn't exist

I'm not looking for that 'one' friend anymore cause i realise while she may exist for some, she necessarily may not exist in my path. It would be great if i meet her someday, but i'm generally done looking.
Cause I think I may have found her, but she is far away....

It usually comes together

Now that I'm at the finals of my Masters programme, I finally see how many things have come together and quite nicely too.

When i was much much younger, i never ever ever wanted to be a Doctor or an Engineer for example i knew things i didn't want to be, i knew things i didn't want to do, but i was highly confused on what to pick for University studies.

I considered, Human Psychology... I've always been interested in the mind, the way it works and how it affects all other aspects of us. But c'mon....Even though this is what my dad studied, my parents woulda been like..'Whaaaa' trust Naija parents.

I considered Vet Medicine just because i like animals,...Dogs especially...and certain breeds...imagine.. wasn't too serious a choice but..lol. I remember when we found out Barty had a cataract i was like, i shoulda done this, ya know! hehe.

I considered Dentistry if i was to become a 'doctor' this was it...but to spend my days staring down #%^& mouths..i choked on my salad.

I considered, Architecture....yeah i've always known how to draw, very well..and i loved design, but i can remember my dad telling me 'it wouldn't get you a job'. I didn't understand then, but i understand now that it isn't exactly what you do in University, that gets you a job. I kinda still wish i had done this...but i probably wouldn't have made it through, because i dislike drawing within specifications.

The other things i liked, were basically unavailable and my parents wouldn't have had it, I tried applying to schools in US, but i got lazy over the process. so i had to stick to what was obtainable.

I.T was the big buzz word then..Anyways 7years after, I'm proud to be an Engineer. My Masters course finals, i am able to do something with Multidisciplinary interactions...my Thesis is based on this.

I am working on Architecture, Product design, Graphic design, Psychology, Ergonomics, Adult Health, Management, Engineering processes... e.t.c its awesome
The only things that don't factor in here are Vet Med and Dentistry..in fact my teeth are so bad, i have to use sensitive toothpaste at my age and stage...but who knows what would happen next...

oooh ooh I see the Sun, Hoppings fair...lets go!

Wharraday

Massive day, Massive headache, Massive egos..i'm beyond spent! The only thing im capable of doing now, is eat, sleep and rant some gibberish. My headache well....take drugs or just sleep on it

Spent too many unintended hours doing project work, wanted to shed buckets at one point because i was tired of hearing people speak. I really just wanted to yell 'keep quiet please!!' but my head kept on pounding....

After that, after Four hours!! i managed to get to the Design Symposium, just in time for the Key-Note, glad i made that, sad i missed lunch

When it was over, hung out with a couple of coursemates over drinks and strawberry dipped in cream, nice..but i dont trust oyinbo food u see.

My head still pounding, i tell them i cant wait for the degree exhibition...so i walk away with stolen popcorn...in my bag. Well...not exactly illegal but i crashed the exhibition, it wasn't declared open yet, but hey i couldnt wait.and i didnt know. The only sad thing was the popcorn was salted. blaargh!

Anyways i came away with lessons and as i reflect they keep adding up.

One, check the weather before going out....i swear this is driving me crazy, cos its been as hot as hell today.
Two, Always carry food in your bag..........i suffered mild insanity due to lack of food, and nowhere to buy em
Three, Learn to network better.........the only way people knew i was there was cause i was the only 'Black' person.
Four, Everything the keynote speaker spoke about.......plus she mentioned Nigeria, a plus in my books!
She's the kind of person i'd like to be when i grow up

Then on my way home i encounter Mr-Blast-from-the-past, saying stuff like 'i've not heard from you since'
I dont understand how someone who has your number can say stuff like that. I don't go around telling people 'i havent heard from you'..when i know fully well, if i wanted to hear from em, i would call.... amazing! You don't hear from people because you don't wanna, don't fake anything jo.

Anyways South Africa is about to play #worldcup What’s happening?
they better win, while i tuck in to enjoy the game with my popcorn.:(

How did i sleep?

I doze off, I know not the time and the hour, only to wake up at 8am.
I must have slept well, my fire was still roaring..kept me warm.

I'm still smarting from yesterday, I really lost a lot of ground because what i set out
to do for the day didn't fall in line.
As per the dog event, i feel bad about disappointing someone more so than about
missing the actual event.
I placed my needs high above..bla bla..it''ll pass :(

Right now, I have two major tasks,
get to school asap, and explain to my thesis tutor why i didnt hand in my literature review
yesterday.

I was taken by emotions yesterday, after priding myself with the fact that i don't
allow emotions control me, but it did, it did. it did.... lessons? oh yeah.. many.lol

off i go!

Huff huff

There is so much to blog about, but aah, so little time!
I have never been so swamped and behind at the start of a semester.
it's all good. I didn't even feel stressed mentally but my body thought otherwise
because i developed a very annoying tic/twitch in my right eye, I need to slow down.

I hope i get the chance to chill a bit this weekend and write a proper post, till then! ^_^

Coming out of the closet.

I grew up as a tomboy to an extent, i loved pants and rough things, but i also loved playing with dolls and girls. I remember a play (we 'acted' a lot of dramas amongst ourselves) i was the wife i think, and my husband was a female too, and yeah we 'kissed' That was my first encounter, never thought it would have any effect on me later and sure as hell, it did not.lol

Anyway, fast forward to secondary school, the land of 'Cliques' and what not, I had this close friend who was part Camerounian and part Nigerian (Adamawaian.lol) We were very close for the most part of the years in Navy. There was always the whisper of , 'Are they lesbians??' 'you guys would fit' and all sorts. I was a bit light in complexion while she was dark, we were both slender. I really enjoyed her company but alas the last year of secondary education saw our relationship break apart. Between some dude who 'asked her out' and me saying she had 'Gorro teeth' it was never the same again. I hear she is married with kids now, i wish her all the best.

University! I really thought my life would take a new unimagined turn here, and sure it didnt. Well, i was basically just going through the motions, doing my own thing and trying to get by. I also had this tee shirt

Which i loved. I love statement tee-shirts ya know, i wore it quite proudly, i wasn't trying to refer to anybody, i  just saw it as funny, but then the comments started to waft in 'She must be Lesbian' 'Is she a lesbian' 'Honey are you gay??' lol

Soon after i became close to a girl in my class, we went everywhere together, we were both about the same height and light in complexion. One day, one of our male friends actually had the gall to look us in the eye and go 'You guys would really fit as a lesbian couple, you look good together' i didnt know whether to take this as a compliment or smack him over the head and run. Well, my friend went off to the US of A after one semester and i was left alone, i didn't get close to anyone like her , there was no one like her obviously and i really couldn't be bothered with second best.

Anyways, Life after school and in general, people would always wonder about my sexual orientation, why does it bug folk so much? i have no idea! i like that i am androgynous, but does that specify orientation? i think not. Well i guess its time i just let it out , once and for all, put smiles on some folks faces and some that would say 'hey i told you so!' here goes,

I'm totally out of the closet now, and yup you said it, I am Heterosexual!!! (Whatever that means, but i dont swing) there! :)

Plat!

Wednesday was one of those days I woke up feeling good about, I never particularly like wednesdays though. It was really foggy and the pains in my tummy had subsided, so I felt ready to roll.

Same ol, bus ride down to school, but this time a friendly man, a Ghanian didnt have to be told.lol, asked me the name of my hairstye when we got off at the same bus stop, i shook my head. He said 'you have to know, its lovely' i started to protest but then let it go with a nice 'thank you'. its ok, he said 'its true' he smiled and walked off. I smiled and went on my way! nice lift to the fog!

First Lecture was by Prof Cockton, His continuing lecture on 'Beyond the object' mentioning people like Bauhaus, Cesanne..talked about four sets of design choices. I have to admit after a lil bit i was more concerned about keeping warm and awake, seemed like the heating in the room had gone bust! There was much emphasis on value and worth mapping. I would read it all over again, its very interesting but didnt have much of an engaging deliverer.

Second lecture was on Conflict management, o how timely! we needed this lecture like last week! lol, it was particularly interesting. There is functional conflict, i didn't know that and yea there was some conflict in my last team and i hate to admit it was dysfunctional, morale of the team was lost and i wasnt happy at the end.
We also watched a clip from the movie, Platoon, and amidst the tears threatening to roll down my cheek, i wondered for the umpteenth time why people go to war. Johnny Depp was even in the movie, i'd like to watch the full thing but i fear torrents of tears. It was a worthwhile lecture.

It was the birthday of one of the nicest ladies on my course and i'm glad she was happy with what i got her ^__^

It was a good day.
PS: yay i can now eat my chocolates! my fridge is still full of em :D

Monday!

I had a great day yesterday
Started off with a shitty letter my teammate sent to two of us..
He even copied the programme leader, jeez..lol

but the new project briefing, the chocolates, Awesome.
One of my best days EVER in school.
Got a great score and feedback on my portfolio :D

Bless! x

The Impossible Week

My past week was wikkid!! my room was a mess! i left early in the mornings, got back late, i felt like i was on a caffeine high, just jumping from one day to another, almost a blur.
Yeah we were given another project with a new team, i like my team members but they are usually arguing over one tiny issue and i have to break it off! i am the official peacemaker and timekeeper.lol

I have to say, things are going really really well in school, and i just realised that when you cut the weed in your life, your growth which was stunted will need spurt, and yeah i've grown so much these past days.

Over the week, i still tried to pay my sleep debts, i resolved to sleep before 12am, for most days it was easy beezie, others not so much. but im gonna take it on this week, i will sleep at 12 or before, fingers crossed..and that would be one negative habit out of the window :)

Theres so much work on my course now, i have no choice but to work harder, i am planning my time more effectively to enable me carry out the work in the best possible way, i wont let the disaster that was last semester affect me in any way. I should complete all my research this month and start paper work in march.

Through the week i was involved in bits here and there, went for my cell meeting on tuesday as usual, it was fun, it usually is and i manage to snag my evenin gmeal there, hehehe. Had two presentations on design at school. The first one was just for my design module, and i have to say, im proud of myself..it went well. The seond one was at the school of design and it was to be presented to undergrads and also the new dean of the school. Even though i forgot some crucial lines, i made them laugh at the end of it and also we got really postive feedback and lady who wants to work with us on the project and carry it further, isn that great!.

Leisurely, i read some parts of a book 'Red Dragon' watched a lot of House (i love that man most times :D) i caught up on 'Take me out' my guilty pleasure and then American Idol. I also went for a night out with my two friends here at fawdon. It was a nice sleep in with a good movie and good food, i would definitely do that again in a heartbeat. It was a nice way to kick off the weekend which i had resolved to spend extremely laid back. When i got home i did the much needed cleaning to my room and laundry. Sunday was a breeze, mainly cooking and relaxing.

I can confidently say I'm ready to start the new week and it kicks off with my Brothers Birthday! yay! Happy Birthday to him, my one and only..all the best Bro (My second bro from another mother is also February-born)

Here's wishing me the best week! :D

Know Thy Self

I've got this course, that is probably the hardest thing I have ever done in my whole life as a student. The course is called Developing the Inter-disciplinary self, it is so...honestly I never thought I would feel so burdened. I also have a 3000 word essay to complete and submit on Tuesday the 12th...I haven't finished with 1000 words. It seems daunting and I know what to do.

The essay is all about analyzing my self and why self-analysis is important and I have to use various tools and books to make the body of work a whole.
It seems pretty interesting but its extremely difficult. i am writing this blog post to give me a clear head, to help me organize my thoughts and put them down in writing..
I will finish up by Tuesday, but I want to finish good.

Self analysis and continuous self development is a task which must be approached with all honesty and it must not be taken as a ride. it is extremely important for personal growth. we can't run away from ourselves therefore we must know it.

School on Crack
So i applied to this school in Detroit for Grad, and i just received yesterday the third application package, which contains a flash drive and a nice book..i have spoken extensively with the Admissions officer and told her i wouldnt be attending because of the high fees ($80K plus for two years) and the fact they offer no assistance to international students. I dont know if its an error on their part or a way to convince me to attend the school (which i really wanna but mehn..that moni!)

Laugh-Ready

Woww! I love laughing o!
its even gotten me into trouble
I love a good joke anytime
So guys who make me laugh
as in , not that i laugh at 'em
I laugh at their 'jokes'

I will always be drawn to ;))

In Sec Sch, SS2 at good 'ol Navy
I was asked to clean the blackboard
I started laughing my ass off
Teacher gets annoyed , asks me to sit in the midst of some guys
ooh i hated that so much and i just couldn't stop laughing
people were saying, they must be sharing laughing gas in my village-how ridiculous.lol

In University, year one
i had to sit directly in front of the class, i didnt have my glasses
so there was no point attending class if i couldnt see the white board
So i ended up giggling with my friend who was apt at keep a straight face
but me, no way!
one particular lecturer, a maths lecturer was so annoyed and he sent me out of the class once
to cut dis long tori short,
i was summoned to the Dean of Student affairs, who asked his sec to type my Letter of Warning
but he warned me himself and fashied the letter, yay!
As for my lecturer, folks in class insinuated that he liked me, that was why he was always disturbing me, so i got a D in that maths course, and he left our school the next semester
sad eh!

I love comedies, comedy shows, stand up comedies, Nigerian, Foreign
as long as the jokes dey funny oh!, sarcastic o!
i go laff!
hehe heh ehe

my fav comedians are
i go die/save
Basket mouth
Gordon

and lots of funny Americans like
Aries Spears
Ron white
Chris Rock
Dave Chappelle
Wanda Skyes
Russell Peters

Laughter is surely a great medicine
My people, Laugh on!

LAST LECTURE

Today I had my last lecture for the semester..yay!!, how relieving

It was a lecture by one my favorite lecturers

course: Satellite communications

Anyways, the day started out somehow, I hadn't gotten much sleep
due to the conditions i faced on my body
then I forgot my assignment in my room, which is on the fourth floor
had to climb back up..aww arrgh!
Then i made sure i submitted ooh, cos the lecturer even forgot to ask
I was so happy!

After the lecture, I went to the cafeteria
got food and a bottle of maltina, marched down to my hall
Alas!
NEPA/PHCN/Generator was out, no 'light!'
Shoot!, took out my laptop, atlist I still had battery time

Thought about the whole semester and to think it would end tomorow
WWooww, cnt wait to be gone! yayayay!!!!
