Trip Note: Barbados

I always find it incredulous when some people realize that I need a visa to go to some countries. Yes, I'm Nigerian we need visas to go almost everywhere! *sigh*
We, my friend and I initially wanted to go to a couple of European countries for the long public holiday that the UK was going to have in two weeks time. This was a semi-spontaneous decision and we realized we would not get our visas on time. I remembered haven seen a list sometime ago that Nigerians could actually travel to some places without a visa. I called up my friend and said, 'Let's go to Barbados! we don't need visas!'

The next thing was to look for flights and a hotel to stay while trying to get ourselves familiar with what the best area and things to do where on the Island. After much indecisiveness caused by me, an American friend of mine decided to join us! the more the merrier, I thought. We booked our flights which cost approximately £700 for a return. Virgin and BA have direct flights from London to the Barbadian airport, Bridgetwon International. We were going to spend 7days in the Bajan paradise.

I could hardly sleep before the day we had to travel, over excitement just dey worry me. I come almost miss my flight, but as God dey help pesin, I reach airport before plane comot ground. As the plane come land for Barbados, everybody scatter clap. I dey surprise gan, I bin dey think say na only for naija wey this kain thing dey happen. Anyway, I'm sure say na over-excitment dey worry all of us. As I comot the plane, sun come nearly blind me, I nefa see this kain sun since '09. I just begin to smile like pesin wey dem just buy christmas cloth for.

As all of us come assemble, we take taxi wey get standard rate of 40 Bajan dollars, from BGI (airport) to our area wey them dey call Hastings. Omo the place resemble lagos no be small. but the people come fine well well. They just dey chillaxed, I already begin to dey like the place, I no fit stop to dey smile.

Our Apartment! Instead of hotel we book apartment hotel wey be self-catering but them get everything boku for the place. The apartment come get private pool join. Enjoyment galore come start! Beach dey for front, swimming pool dey for top! omo na, this is the life! But as hunger dey catch we go find food chop, we go the nearest supermarket. The money wey dem they use na Bajan Dollars, the exchange rate be B$2 to US $1, this one be standard rate, and them dey collect US dollars if you give them, but Pounds dem no too like to collect am, so if you hold pounds, you need to exchange am for their banks for there. dem get very good exchange rates, no exchange am for UK oh.

Everyday we find one major activity we go do.

1. We go explore the capital, wey be Bridgetown, we go see museum and things, people come just dey look pesin

3. We go learn how to surf http://www.dreadordead.com/

4. We go cruise for catamaran boat and we snorkel with turtles http://www.coolrunningsbarbados.com/index2.html

5. We go enjoy some fish and lobster for St Lawrence Gap

6. We enjoy time for our apartment, swimming and cooking

7. We go explore shops, cinema and things

Lovely time we had, I can't wait to go back!

Bank Holiday Revel! : Toon Land

 Yep, So I was back in the Land close to me heart, I missed that Geordie Lilt so much! Anyways, this time around I stayed on the opposite side of the river.

Now can you tell me, What the heck this thing is, Was this really necessary? In the nightime I'm sure it would scare the jeebuzes out of anyone.

Royal Wedding weekend, yes it was, and unlike others who flew into the 'capital' I flew out. But ofcourse, the image was going to be with me where ever I go...even Tesco.

Anyways, I managed to have some fun baking a cake with a friend, it is incredibly easy to do, when you've got everything needed to put it together. My job actually in this was to grate the Carrots, yes it was a Carrot Cake. I grated the Carrot and then crushed the walnuts, which we mixed with the Cake batter. My friend did everything else, Plus the cheese icing, I then decorate the top with Cinnamon powder and walnuts.

Yummy!

Yum..sat in the fridge, couldn't wait for a taste

Three nice layers!

Hmmmm Delicious!!!!!!

Who remembers this?

Black Rice........Yes we made Black rice, Thai chicken and Thai pepper sauce which didn't work, so I had to make traditional Nigerian tomato sauce.lol. SWEET!

Tried to have a barbecue the day before I left but the winds didn't allow it, I was practically freezing despite the sun.

This Looks like a bird...I'm sure it does! lol

Thats how the desktop saved my life...

I've got lots on my mind, so much that i cant think straight , I can't do my coursework, but the strange thing is, I dont know why exactly my mind seems foggy, but i sure know one thing, theres something about a desktop that makes you wanna work!

Yay, i got to eat real pounded yam today, but the ogbono soup could have been better, yum! i'm never touching chinese food again. i should really stick to my no-fry rule. Any food i don't cook myself and aint fried, me no eat!

Holiday

I feel like i wasted my holiday, kinda, its been great having to not think of school work, but i'm still mighty pissed i didnt get to go down to the beach, >_<. I may be travelling again tomorrow to the midlands, but here i am asking myself, why do i really want to go, i want to see the town, yeah, hang out with friends, i hope signals arent being miscommunicated here though. On thursday i've been invited to a graduation party, that should be fun, next week it all ends, going back home to Arthur.

Questions

I get asked a lot of strange questions and i wonder if i should leave the recent one to a post on its own, i probably should but it is about my sexual orientation, imagine! lol.
Another question also spurred the thoughts in my mind, the only two kinds of people i want in my life, Honest and Unpretentious. I'm done with smarm.

Movies

Watched Jaws again today, lots of memories in that one and the unforgettable theme score, doom doom doom!. Also, caught up on Curious George two, too cute! love that monkey! Last but really touching was Sex and the City, i swear the number of times this movie has evaded me is legendary! i wasnt too surprised tat the plot but it still got me emotional. I'm such a romantic it kills me! but theres nothing like being happy and making someone happy..*sigh* oo! imperfect world!

Upcoming...

I'm pretty dissapointed in myself at this point, i couldn't submit the proposal anymore, i froze. i couldnt send it. i guess thats one thing fogging my mind up, there were too many questions, i couldnt draw myself to one point. i was also sort of ill on saturday, yeah it got me down. I feel i'm dissappointing not just me. i need to step up on a lot of things. I have one more week to get things straight before going home.

I am absolutely in love with Dagny Taggart, 100%. i want to get things done like she did, i know..kinda crazy, but i feel myself  there..

Conclusion of the week, Everyone is corrupted

O Fortuna

Ok, So between Saturday and now, i failed in my task to make soup! aaah. And theres no chance now cause I go on hols from Friday. oh well!!. I've been busy making plans for my holiday, I don't want to exceed two weeks, the work i have to do is MASSIVE. but i want to relax too, Moving a lot around the south end, should be fun!

On Sunday, forgot a document for my CRB check (enrolled to help in a creche) so i had to go for the evening service in church. While I was feeling good with myself through out the day, cause I looked 'Trendy'. The evening sermon which was 'Healing Life's hurt' began to bring about memories, some good some bad.

ooh the good times, going for fellowship at Transit Village, watching and dancing to Colby's treehouse, Kids Praise and the donut man, I recently dug these up on Youtube and it made me wanna cry. Also when we were younger my sisters would say i was the ugly one. I took it in stride, i dont really know how it affected me, but being told your the ugly one could never have good feelings come with it. Still i believe things like this helped me shape ideas about myself from a very early age. It didnt matter if i was the 'ugly' one, someone had to be.lol.

Anyway, i look back and only laugh, we were kids. Experiences can make you Bitter or Better, make your choice. Ive made mine ^_^

Meanwhile apart from my 'loc-ed guy obssession' of which I actually saw two guys in one day who totally rocked my boat, both dark skinned, one had long locs but he had a kid with him, DAMM! lol, the second one was in passing, he had 'cornrows' fine boi..:(

My latest obsession is O Fortuna by Carl Orff. It is very popular but I didn't know who the composer was until recently, and I cant stop playing it....it speaks volumes to me...

O Fortuna
velut luna
statu variabilis,
semper crescis
aut decrescis;
vita detestabilis
nunc obdurat
et tunc curat
ludo mentis aciem,
egestatem,
potestatem
dissolvit ut glaciem.

Sors immanis
et inanis,
rota tu volubilis,
status malus,
vana salus
semper dissolubilis,
obumbrata
et velata
michi quoque niteris;
nunc per ludum
dorsum nudum
fero tui sceleris.

Sors salutis
et virtutis
michi nunc contraria,
est affectus
et defectus
semper in angaria.
Hac in hora
sine mora
corde pulsum tangite;
quod per sortem
sternit fortem,
mecum omnes plangite!

English Version

O Fortune,
just as the moon
Stands constantly changing,
always increasing
or decreasing;
Detestable life
now difficult
and then easy
Deceptive sharp mind;
poverty
power
it melts them like ice.

Fate—monstrous
and empty,
you whirling wheel,
stand malevolent,
well-being is vain
and always fades to nothing,
shadowed
and veiled
you plague me too;
now through the game,
my bare back
I bring to your villainy.

Fate, in health
and in virtue,
is now against me
driven on
and weighted down,
always enslaved.
So at this hour
without delay
pluck the vibrating string;
since through Fate
strikes down the strong,
everyone weep with me!

School on Crack
So i applied to this school in Detroit for Grad, and i just received yesterday the third application package, which contains a flash drive and a nice book..i have spoken extensively with the Admissions officer and told her i wouldnt be attending because of the high fees ($80K plus for two years) and the fact they offer no assistance to international students. I dont know if its an error on their part or a way to convince me to attend the school (which i really wanna but mehn..that moni!)
