Rant about Proposals

I really don't get wedding proposals to be honest. and why does it have to be in public, most of the time???

Let's break it down a bit. Why do we need to have wedding proposals?
I figure;

1. The person proposing doesn't know what the other will say, this begs the question, why propose at all to someone you are unsure of and in public, thus risking humiliation from both the person and onlookers??

2. The person proposing knows what the answer is, this begs the question, why do all the acting and feigning of surprise, I mean seriously??

Just thinking...

My Blue Shoes

They deserve their own post now, haven assumed celebrity status. Most people seem to really like it, and some do not hesitate to tell me. It's like I instantly become stylish wearing them and I don't see a lot of people wearing blue shoes. I still remember when I bought them at a discount shoe store last year at a clearance price (don't blame me, blame the student in me). It was in the morning and I was trying to get to school for a workshop with a consulting firm, I was late but that was when the compliments began. After a while I put them away when I moved cities, and only busted them out about a month or two ago, and booyah! celebrity!
They are getting really worn now because of constant wear, I may need to find a replacement soon, but it's been a lovely time so far :). I love my blue shoes.

The Haunting

I woke up, it was dark outside, it was dark inside this shouldn't be I thought as my brain came to. Quickly I turned to my laptop, the blue light which indicated power was dark. No way! I shivered. I sprang up from the bed and ran out of my room, ''what is happening''! I screamed at the dark hallway. In a second a voice called, ''Nothing'' I reached for the light switch beside my door and flicked it, as the light flooded my room, my heart rate slowed and I smiled.
I am quite sure that NEPA will haunt me for the rest of my life. Living more than 20yrs in that kind of environment will do it to you too.

Whatever I Rip, I Shall Sew

I realized some time ago how wrong we get the idea of 'Sow and Reap' We always tend to look at things individualistically but its not always called for. We look at it in the view of Karma, but Karma doesn't exist. Bad things happen to Good people and vice versa. So what does 'Whatever you sow, you will Reap' mean? go back to the context it was gleaned from. A farmer knows all about sowing, he doesn't expect that when he sows rice, he will reap cocoyam, impossible. This act has nothing to do with what the farmer is going to harvest and take home at the end of the day. Sometimes all his crops fail and perhaps they are stolen, still what he sowed, didn't it reap the same plant?

Our actions are seeds and are the same and it's not about what you get at the end of the day like we have greedily come to accept. If you sow 10 naira into a hungry persons life and they can only eat once a day, think about how far 100naira would go in a day. You can't sow nothing and expect the person not to die of hunger. If you sow Fastfoods into your life, I wonder how you expect not to have diseases to reap. Also, if I sow anger, what will I reap..more anger and maybe irreversible damage, despite whatever good may come out of it at the end of the day.  This is a simple picture of what the Sow and Reap principle is all about.

For me now, I have to go about the business of sewing what I ripped. First of all my precious corduroy jacket, ripped at the front, ghastly. The relationships that are ripped or I ripped, I have to bear responsibility for sewing. As I sow and reap, so shall I sew whatever I have ripped.

Not once did I think of Osama!

Yesterday was such a day! Lots of things happened in usual style. Any time on the tube is bound to be dramatic. I've narrated the main story else where, it was so hectic, I didn't spare a thought for current events happening in the world. As the day slowed, I suddenly found I had a lot of time left! but I was quite worn out, plus I was wearing the wrong thing for the temperature of the day.

So I decided to go attend the Real Food Festival, thanks to some 'connections' I got a free ticket. It was some fun, I wished i had lots of money, I would have carried sacks of food home.

I saw Foreign Cows up close and Personal! LOL

*No Comment* hehe

Healthy Chocolate....visit 'em

I saw Foreign Sheep for the first time! boy are they smelly or what!!

I got to have a taste of Vegetarian Cake, Some chocolate, Fast breakfast made of yogurt, oats and berries. There were lots of meat, cheese and wine. Great place for extreme foodies. It was nice.

Soon after, I couldn't hop on the train because....you guessed it, Peak Hours! na..I'm not rushing anywhere, I decided to wait. When it was over, I happily went on and made my way home :)Tired as anything but still filled with smilies, It was when I got online later that I realized Osama existed.

My Bed Habit

I am a tidy sleeper that's why I can have my laptop constantly on my bed, but even that has its disadvantages. One of the perils of engaging in this sort of bed habit is sore arms. I usually sleep on my side, and I wake up on that same side. This particular night, I was dreaming as usual but felt an excruciating pain on my right arm, it was horrible. So I tried to turn, but it felt heavy and just kept throbbing. I was in so much pain and I could hardly sleep again. I was convinced that when I finally wake up, I would have to amputate the arm.

When I did get off my bed in the morning, the first thing I reached for was aboniki. My arm was hung heavily by my side through the day, constantly massaging and contorting my face. That night it was hard to sleep, since then (Last Saturday) I've had difficulty sleeping because of positioning, I just don't know what to do at the moment. I'm not sleeping too well, I feel it when I wake up *sigh* I'm going to try something this night..hopefully it should work.

Grinding my Gears

A lot of things grind my gears, I'm only human. So much that goes on in world, especially things that you can do zero about. As for non-harmful things, people who chew their food like goats, and people who chew and pop gum noisily are at the top of the list. My brain goes into red alert. It's hard being sat at a restaurant and having to hear all that indiscriminate chewing *shudders*

I replied a topic centered around this on a forum and someone recommended a video for me to watch, because I had commented 'I could shoot' The video is from the movie Chicago, 'Cell Block Tango', hilarious, you can watch it Here

I remember one day when my gears were almost crushed by the indiscriminate chewing of gum. I was on a train and alas I had forgotten my earphones, my last option was to get off at the next stop, I just couldn't endure. After giving the dude a death stare,(because it was either that or my hand around his neck) I jumped off the train. My sister was bewildered.

I planned that we'd just get off and get into another compartment. While I got on, my sister was left behind! *Panic* No phone signals underground! I hoped that she caught my 'will get off at the next station'' So at the next station I got off the train, and waited for the next one. Thankfully I saw my sister on it waving, I got on and there was no crazy being to drive me Insane!*Wheew* :D

And many more episodes..lol. It's only recently I realized how much responsibility lies on my shoulders when it comes to reacting to the situation. So far I've managed to stay in line and I hope to continue ^_^

Rambs

It was a long day. I think the best decision I made was to wear my purple 'space-age' leather/patent-leather boots. I marched through the field which seperated my house and the train station with glee. But as I got to the station I would have to wait 15mins till the next train, WHAT?!?! I needed to not fall into Peak fare time!. Oh no!. But through the speakers the news that Someone had thrown Her/Himself under a train at Bond Street station made the delay make sense. It was also sad. Understandable, but sad.

I got to the Library which was my first point of call, and registeration went smoothly! I also took the prettiest Passport photo I've ever had in my life! If you see my Nigerian Passport photo, you will run wild with laughter, Even my dad was upset about it.
So far I haven't really blogged about many of my interests here, I left that to my school blog, where all the 'Serious' stuff went. But now I'm in the process of revamping it, so I will continue here. I am presently researching IFA, Origins of the world, Japanese culture, Uneme culture, Personality Typing (Myers-Briggs and Jung). So I spent about two hours at the Library. Then I had to head out to the place I volunteer and take a course at around 7pm.

When I left the library it was pouring, I had no hood, no hat, thank goodness my hair is not relaxed!lol. I found the bus stop amidst the rain. Somehow I got off at the wrong stop and managed to get lost. I was going to be late! it took me an hour to get there. Along the way, I was assaulted by a drunken man..He'd have had to be drunk! I was trying to cross the road, and he stopped me midway. I could have gotten hit by a car! He dragged my bag and my arm, being the highly reactive person that I am, I shrugged him off and ran for my dear life while he still mouthed, quite loudly, incoherent words. I was a bit shaken but happy I was almost at the venue.

My hair! Just as we finished for the day, One of the 'white' girls in my group says..'Your hair is done differently today, I like it, I wish my hair could do that' I just chuckled. My hair was pulled up, I can't really describe it, but yeah it looked very good to me.lol. I started to get a bit defensive in my head. Why would she say that? but she probably had the best intentions, no? or was she just trying to be friendly 'cause I mentioned that ALL my friends are Nigerians. Maybe if she had stopped at 'Your hair is nice' I wouldnt have thought these thoughts. oh well, too late! Its funny that our hair, can imitate other 'races' hair, but they could never get the curly we have. I'm so proud of it ^_^.

The Sun will no longer rise here

She opened her eyes and took in the familiar surrounding she had come to intensely dislike. Two more days she thought. Still feeling really lazy she pulled up the duvet to her chin and glanced about. The heater which had kept her warm the whole night was still in operation with its hum that didn't bother her..suddenly it went silent. She looked at her computer, the light which indicated power was dark not its usual sci-fi blue. Oh my god she silently exclaimed, what the crack?! She started to get irritated, annoyed and eventually upset. Two more days!! she screamed, Two more days!

Beyond Google maps.

Do you sometimes feel like jumping out of yourself
and viewing the world like an omnipresent would?

I do.

On a positive note....

I had a weird day, what with getting lost, Then the Ghana-Germany game started and Ghana disgraced me with bringing Juju and not scoring a thing! glad they still went through sha. Then, i got another rejection email....Also the rice i try to boil turns into Tuwo shinkafa....

Anyways.......

I was among those picked to speak at a TED-Like conference by Sense Worldwide in Lon. I feel like Chimamanda already. lolol. All expense paid and everything.

Two things are going to make me stand out at the Conf..not that i don't already stand out and without trying.....I'm the only 'Black' person from my school, and possibly at the Conf.
Yeah you guessed it..

One, The Quality of my speech and how long i can hold a debate...oops i forgot, i will be speaking about my thesis question.

Two, Outfit!!

Wheew i'm tired.

The Source

You know, people don't consider the source of things enough. The root of the matter, of any matter is usually key to solving or understanding the issues you face...

err ok I'm not going that deep...

Just talking mostly about what people may say about you. Once upon a time, some one randomly started chatting with me on facebook and says that someone who I know thinks I'm @#%^&*( ok..something i can't remember right now. So I ask 'Who is this person?' and he replies why? I told him I needed to consider the source of the information he just brought to me. When he says who, I shrug it off, because the 'Source' was totally irrelevant to me and my life.

Wharraday

Massive day, Massive headache, Massive egos..i'm beyond spent! The only thing im capable of doing now, is eat, sleep and rant some gibberish. My headache well....take drugs or just sleep on it

Spent too many unintended hours doing project work, wanted to shed buckets at one point because i was tired of hearing people speak. I really just wanted to yell 'keep quiet please!!' but my head kept on pounding....

After that, after Four hours!! i managed to get to the Design Symposium, just in time for the Key-Note, glad i made that, sad i missed lunch

When it was over, hung out with a couple of coursemates over drinks and strawberry dipped in cream, nice..but i dont trust oyinbo food u see.

My head still pounding, i tell them i cant wait for the degree exhibition...so i walk away with stolen popcorn...in my bag. Well...not exactly illegal but i crashed the exhibition, it wasn't declared open yet, but hey i couldnt wait.and i didnt know. The only sad thing was the popcorn was salted. blaargh!

Anyways i came away with lessons and as i reflect they keep adding up.

One, check the weather before going out....i swear this is driving me crazy, cos its been as hot as hell today.
Two, Always carry food in your bag..........i suffered mild insanity due to lack of food, and nowhere to buy em
Three, Learn to network better.........the only way people knew i was there was cause i was the only 'Black' person.
Four, Everything the keynote speaker spoke about.......plus she mentioned Nigeria, a plus in my books!
She's the kind of person i'd like to be when i grow up

Then on my way home i encounter Mr-Blast-from-the-past, saying stuff like 'i've not heard from you since'
I dont understand how someone who has your number can say stuff like that. I don't go around telling people 'i havent heard from you'..when i know fully well, if i wanted to hear from em, i would call.... amazing! You don't hear from people because you don't wanna, don't fake anything jo.

Anyways South Africa is about to play #worldcup What’s happening?
they better win, while i tuck in to enjoy the game with my popcorn.:(

Hypnotized by Colour

I was riding on the bus today, and had this crazy feeling.
I had been looking at this girl, from when she boarded the bus
I had thought,
I love her jacket, her skirt..ooh my word, she's my kind of person!
But then she had these colours on.
I had thought,
Lovely colour, I wish I had a scarf and tights in that colour
Then I started to fall.
I was being hypnotized,
I never thought,
Colours would have this effect on me
This colour could have this effect on me
I thought,
Am I dreaming?, figments?
I smiled,
I really do love this and whatever happens doesn't matter.

What mystery!, this colour, Emerald.

The past few Days...

Its been a looooooong minute!, its always amazing how, a few days make so much difference in one's life. Through out the weekend i was focused on getting one of my essays out, which i turned in on Monday. So the weekend was a bit of a blur, except when i went with my Zimbabwean friend, Brenda to a Mary Kay event where we got free gifts, and then decided with the change on us to get some Chinese food. We ended up walking back home, and eating the food on the way, it was tres funny and fun!

Along the way we met one of our mutual friends, a guy who had recently just gotten back from the hospital where he was admitted because he had been beaten by random people one fateful night, it gave me the chills. Obviously hate-inspired, oour damm world!
 ****Breathe****

Monday was one of my friends birthday, and guess what! she planned to go to Whitley Bay! Whitley Bay i had gone to for the first time the last week on a project. I was way too surprised! anyways, she wanted us to go ice-skating. After a long day at school, and stopping for seconds to see a spectacle in the city center, i went home. Only to get my house mate saying someone she had met at church, a Nigerian guy had invited us to a dinner, where He would be cooking!! Mehh, hard decisions, man! Friend Vs New Guy, Free Food Vs Cake, Ice-Skating Vs Warm getogether.... Well of course you have to weigh your priorities. Amd i reckon, one celebrates a birthday only once in a year..so..lol
It was great fun!! yeah i'd never been on the ice before, butt for a beginner, i really did well, if i say so myself :D, pictures yay!

Tuesday, was just a tension filled day, we had to get our presentation and pdf together, i left school the latest i've ever done. I was just so spazzed out.

Wednesday!! everyone was geared up and ready to go, not before one of our ash struck coursemate, Alisha, gave out little presents, it was so cute! and then she gave me a special one, because i had helped her submit her assignments while she was still stuck...i would never have expected the gesture in a million years, plus she had given me a token for what i had spent even if i brushed it off.

Presentations went well, albeit some slight blimps here and there, but overall everyone was upbeat and it just kind of flowed. After we went for Post- Celebration Celebrations!! lol (inside joke.hehe), had a pint and headed home, Great day overall.

Here i am, had to blog, but i really should go sleep now though, no break for long between projects so i have to be in at 9:30 to get on, great times ahead! ;D

Holiday

So I have one essay off my chest, still have two to get down to. I'm seriously dreading the presentations and i don't know what to do about that. I'm sitting here, feeling so lazy, don't know what to do about that. I want to sleep, but I can't, I want to eat but I can't, I don't know what to do about that.

Yesterday

Do i like Him? i dont know, i usually respond to peoples' feelings for me. If i feel nothing, response = 0 and so on and so forth, bad thing? i dont know, but its something i've come to learn about myself, But i swear , iv daydreamed about it a lot, thats how i fall asleep. If i feel nothing...., the clock is ticking, i would find something else to daydream about.

In other news,

Went further south from the midlands, my back hurts, from coach to tube to train, damm! i am wasted. Went for a grad party, it was cool to hang around and meet new people. oh yeah, i was standing by myself at Waterloo waiting for my friend so we could both hit the party, and here comes this dude with gold in his teeth trying to chat me up. First he gave a wink as he passed me, but he came back. 'i like ur hair' i smile sheepishly 'oh ur so cute, are you american?' 'Why are you acting like guys dont try to hit on you' then i see my friend coming, and i smile 'oh your..' the guy says, i give a nod while my friend gives me a hug, the guy smiles and saunters away. Oh thou commuters!

Meanwhile, just before i got to the station...this guy, a muslim, gets on my car while in the tube, to be honest i was scared for like 5minutes, what if he was a suicide bomber??..... i had thought. Well this deserves a post on its own and i will find time to do it, 'The stereotype we feed'

Before i go to sleep, just a little word on the documentary on BBC 'Welcome to Lagos' I really liked it, it was so refreshing to hear Naija-speak not like the disappointment Blood and Oil wrought. I loved the frankness of the stories. I guess the only thing i didnt like was that it was incomplete. I didnt recognise Lagos, because the docu started out in the slums, and if that is Lagos. I was bred in some other state then. I would have imagined that the documentary would give a brief overview of what Lagos is and then zoom into the slum, dump areas. Anyway, it was emotional and really good plus i loved the soundtrack! ^_^

So there, Night! my eyes are already half way down...
